The 45,000 Quilt Project is a traveling art exhibit that brings together the efforts of immigrant justice activists and artists to show the extent of immigrant detention in our country and to work toward more humane solutions. The quilt is made of 1-yard square panels, each one representing 1,000 detained immigrants, and is sewn into 6 large panels. The panels are on display in Chicago City Hall through August 20, and may be seen Mondays through Fridays, 9-5pm.
You are encouraged to either see the quilt on your own or join Faith in Action and Discovery Circle on Monday, August 16 for a field trip to Chicago by train. Participants have the option of taking Metra from Arlington Heights to Chicago (9:32am train), or carpooling from FUMCAH at 9am to the Rosemont CTA station and taking the Blue Line train to Chicago. After viewing the 45,000 Quilt at City Hall, you can also go to the Art Institute to see fiber artist Bisa Butler’s exhibit. We plan to eat lunch in Chicago before returning to Arlington Heights.
