History & Philosophy

The First United Methodist Church Preschool was formed as a ministry to the community in 1973. The school’s purpose and ministry is to provide a nurturing, safe and trustworthy environment, one in which each child can grow and develop to his or her own potential. Of primary importance is the development of each child’s positive sense of self-worth. Enrollment shall be open to any child providing the school can meet the needs of that child. The school is fully licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services.

Staff

The teachers are highly skilled professionals who have a strong commitment to Early Childhood Education. All teachers meet or exceed the DCFS required educational background. All staff are certified in Infant and Child CPR and First Aid.

Curriculum

The early development of social, intellectual, emotional and physical ability is essential in preparing children for school and for a well-adjusted life. To help children achieve these goals we have developed a well-rounded program. The First United Methodist Church Preschool uses Developmentally Appropriate Practices developed by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Enrichments/Extensions

Extend your child’s day through the additional classes offered at the preschool. Students in our 3-year-old classes have the option to participate in our Extension program, where they get to stay, play, and eat lunch. Students in our 4-year-old classes can participate in our in-house enrichment program “Discover, Imagine, Create, and Explore” (DICE).

Facility

We have large, bright classrooms – set up for many different types of activities. Our playground was designed specifically for preschoolers.

Class Size

Classes meet or exceed DCFS teacher to child ratios.

Parental Involvement

We value partnerships with families and promote open communication and involvement between staff and families. We typically have an open-door policy, where families are welcome at any time. Due to COVID-19, we have had to revise this policy and take extra precautions with inviting visitors into the building.
