Green Team Updates
Bottle Cap Collection Update!
We will no longer be collecting bottle caps because SWANCC (our local recycling company) prefers the lids be left on bottles and cartons. The recycling center scanners can now detect the shape of an item and send it to the proper conveyor in the recycling stream, making the whole process much more efficient. The caps left on help the bottle or carton retain its shape. Please keep items in their original shape (don’t crush), wash out the item and replace the cap before recycling.
We want to thank everyone who donated over 150 lbs of caps and lids! We donated these to a Girl Scout troop working toward their own plastic bench goal. Your efforts have helped keep plastics out of our environment. We have information on other ways you can reduce single use plastic waste that we are happy to share with you. Please contact any Green Team member for more details.
Earthfest Update:
FUMCAH has hosted Earthfest the last two Septembers with the vision of continuing our congregation and community education and commitment to a more just climate. It would not have been possible without the energy and committment of Kim Buck and many of you who volunteered! This year the Green Team is reimagining these efforts and will host a Harvest Supper (A MEAL FOR CHANGE) this fall with a little different focus. We hope to move beyond recycling and composting to petitioning those in power for support. We’ll invite legislators and leaders to join us for a locally sourced, meatless meal and share updates and information that will shape our future.
Please plan to join us Sunday, September 22 for this special dinner, ideas for change, live music and fun!
