Green Team Update

The Green Team would like to thank the entire FUMCAH congregation for their continued efforts to help eliminate plastic, single use dishes and utensils, compost, recycle, and to promote green legislation.

In less than a year we eliminated more than 16,850 single use items.

  • 4,950 plates

  • 450 bowls

  • 2,600 napkins

  • 4,050 utensils

  • 4,850 cups

Check out the new recycling cabinet in the welcome center for batteries, bread tags, keys, and prescription bottles.
The new church LED lights are expected to go from our current energy usage of 177,500 kw/yr to 141,102 kw/yr which will result in a reduction of 18 metric tons of CO2.

Thanks to the generosity of all our FUMCAH farmers, Bountiful Harvest had one the best years yet and raised $773 for Northwest Compass and Family Foods.

We now participate in full food composting (in addition to vegetables, fruit and bread, it includes all foods including meat, seafood, and dairy) and will be expanding the opportunity to interested FUMCAH church members. Currently we are collecting approximately 25 pounds of food each week that is turned into fertilizer instead of going into landfill.
250 people came to EarthFest in September 2023, where we promoted recycling and shared sustainable Earth-friendly practices such as mending, re-use, and sharing of items.

Coming up, we will be throwing a Green Harvest Supper, a meal for change on Sunday, September 22 from 4-6pm at the church featuring organic sustainable foods. There will be a chance to meet legislators promoting green legislation, receive composting updates, and learn about special recycling opportunities such as textiles. There will be entertainment for the whole family, including contests for art from recycled/found objects and for upcycled fashions created from thrift stores or your closet.

Throughout this year we will continue to work on furthering green initiatives and legislating by being advocates for existing and upcoming bills. For more information on the legislation we support and materials available to contact your legislators contact any of these Green Team members: Allison Anderson, Thomas Frerk, Anita Herr, Terri Passolt, Kate Pollard and Tracey Ruder.
