Black History Month

February is Black History month. As many have pointed out, Black History is everyone's hostory and something we should all celebrate. I'm observing the month by expanding my knowledge of Black scholar and theologian, Howard Thurman. Known as the godfather of the civil rights movement, Thurman served as a spiritual adviser to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A couple of my favorite Thurman quotes are:

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

"In the stillness of the quiet, if we listen, we can hear the whisper of the heart giving strength to weakness, courage to fear, hope to despair."

I look forward to discovering more.

How will you observe Black History Month? For some inspiration, check out these ideas from Building Faith.
