“Pray unceasingly.” Does this mean you never get off your knees? Of course not! Rather, the writer of First Thessalonians leads us to experience unceasing prayer as a lifestyle living constantly conscious of God’s presence and our own and other’s needs. Prayer is like a magnet that draws the one to the other. We know prayer is powerful. Join us in any of the following ministries.
Soothing Stitches: Prayer Shawl Ministry
As shawls are knitted or crocheted, images of healing, compassion, and joy are prayed into the stitches. The work of our hands blesses the heart of each shawl’s recipient. Join our circle of knitters and crocheters at church each third Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm, or work on your project at home. Not only do we knit and crochet shawls, we make baby hats for new siblings of children in our weekday preschool and new babies in our church family. Earlier this year, we completed several ?Afghans for Appalachia? and sent them to Kentucky with our youth mission team. All of our projects are tangible expressions of God’s love, surrounding the recipients with care. For more information, contact Lynn Mikels.
Prayer Chain
We believe prayer is vital to sustain the Christian life, both personally and collectively. A prayer chain is activated when a member calls the church with a specific, often confidential, prayer request. Prayer cards in the pews allow you to share a prayer request with the congregation on Sunday mornings. Call the office at 847-255-5112 if you would like to join the chain or desire a prayer for yourself or others.
Prayer Partners
Do you want someone to pray with you? Partners in Caring assure you of the truth of scripture that when we don’t know how or what to pray for, “the Spirit will intercede for us with sighs too deep for words to express.” Ro 8:26. Call the office for more information.
Liturgical Prayer
Our Sunday Worship Celebrations include prayers of praise, confession, petition, and thanksgiving.
Prayer Request
An area to record your prayer request is found on the perforated flap in each Sunday’s bulletin. Tear off the flap, fill it out and put it in the offering plate. As appropriate the pastors include them in staff prayers and may incorporate them in future worship services with permission. You can also submit a prayer request online here.
